what's on at 33

The 33 Creative team have been busy working across a number of important projects with some taking us to Wiradjuri Country (Dubbo) and Dharawal Country (Wollongong), where we get to do what fills our cups; engage with Mob on the ground in community.

As we celebrate NAIDOC Week aka BLACK CHRISTMAS, we invite you to check out this month's edition of our newsletter to see what we've been up to ⬇️

The CENSUS is Coming

Healthy Deadly Kids

Did you know that the Census is coming on 11 August?

We visited the Healthy Deadly Kids team on Dharawal Country to learn about how they’re using Census data to promote healthy choices for kids in the Illawarra. Healthy Deadly Kids, in partnership with the Aboriginal and Medical Research Council and local Aboriginal Medical Services, promotes healthy lifestyles for primary school kids.

Check out the case study we filmed above and see their important work in action. Thanks to the deadly team at the Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service and the staff and kids at Tullimbar Public School for bringing the smiles and energy!

Cancer Council Australia

Maddy and Shira with Natasha from TACAMS

Maddy and Shira from our team recently spent a day filming the wonderful staff and community at Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation Aboriginal Medical Service (TACAMS) for an important project with Cancer Council Australia. We can't wait to share the details of this one with you all, soon.

Big deadly shoutout to Natasha (pictured with Maddy and Shira) from TACAMS for bringing this shoot together alongside us. We are always grateful to the connections and relationships that our communities have with each other and for trusting and inviting us in.

National Lung Cancer Screening Program - Dubbo

Maddy and Shira in Dubbo

Shira and Maddy continued their travels to Wiradjuri Country to chat with local community about the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.

It was a wonderful yarn over lunch with a number of local Elders and community members about the importance of lung screening. We were also pleased to be joined by staff from Lumus Imaging Dubbo where community were able to ask questions about the referral and screening process.

A huge thank you to Dubbo Mob for your support and presence and we look forward to sharing more about the special yarn we had with Elders on the ground in a future newsletter edition.

Jarin Baigent and her family on the Social Media Minimum Age Limitations

Jarin Baigent
Earlier this year, we conducted an interview with Jarin Baigent and her family about their thoughts on the Social Media Minimum Age Limitations that went into effect in December 2025. They discuss how they have adapted to the new law, what they hope will result from the changes, and the family and culturally-led activities they have been engaging in.

Check out the video above and head to esafety.gov.au for a range of resources to support your family now and into the future.

National NAIDOC Week: 50 Years of Deadly

It's our favourite time of the year... NAIDOC Week aka Black Christmas!!

This year's theme 50 Years of Deadly is an opportunity to reflect on the people, movements and moments that have sustained NAIDOC for five decades. This year, we pay tribute to those who have come before us: the Elders who created space and fought for our rights, the artists who channeled their activism and resistance into creative expression and the communities who stand up and show up every day of the year for Mob.

Whilst we reflect, we also look ahead to the next generation of First Nations leadership, storytelling and change. We are proud of the representation that we see of Mob across the arts, sport and various industries where our expertise and excellence shine. We also acknowledge that there is still work to be done.

We want the next 50 years to look like truth-telling, language revitalisation and protection, community controlled and determined futures and cultural continuity for the many generations to come.

As you celebrate NAIDOC Week this year (no reason to stop at one week), remember and honour those that came before us and continue to create space and elevate the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities. We encourage you to support First Nations artists, communities, businesses and causes all year round, not just during NAIDOC Week. To learn more about this year's theme, go to the National NAIDOC website.

"The kids disco by @yalbillinga Boori daycare centre, mob owned multipurpose centre. And connecting with family around a fire." - Trilby
